DEFIANCE
ACTION-DRAMA - The year is 1941 and the Jews of Eastern Europe are being massacred by the thousands. As a brutal winter descends, they work to create a community, and to keep faith alive when all humanity appears to be lost.

COMEDY (FOREIGN). Tagline:"In Kautokeino no one can hear you scream."
What started as a joke "Wouldn’t it be fun to make a Northern Norwegian
Tarantino spoof of Kill Bill?" is on its way to becoming a cult favorite - with
Quentin Tarantino's blessing ("I love it, I love it!"). This gross,
over-the-top indie action comedy originally gained traction through internet
downloads and viral marketing and was made on a budget of 890,000 Norwegian
Kroner (about USD $150,000). Rated R, probably for the over-abundance of spurting fake
blood and some very crude humour.
Our hero, Jompa Torman, is reluctantly on his way into marriage. The
bride's family are gathered to the traditional engagement coffee at Kautokeino
community centre when hell breaks loose. The Deadly Sapmi Assassination Squad,
assault the premises, leaving nobody alive. But wait! Jompa miraculously
survives, albeit in a deep coma. He awakens to find himself wrongfully accused
of the murders. With revenge in his heart, Jompa must evade the law while he
prepares to track down and settle his business with the Sapmi killers - one by
one.

BABINE
FANTASY-TALE * Winner of 5 PRIX JUTRA at the celebrated Quebec 2009 film awards *
Luc Picard brings us a beautifully crafted fairy tale about a 
simpleton’s
life in a Quebec village. This is the charming magical-realist story of a man
called Babine and his fellow villagers: Toussaint Brodeur the Fly-tamer, a
blacksmith in love with a widow from St. Barnabé who cheats on him with the
priest. Then there's Méo the hairdresser whose love for the bottle reults in
strange hairdos for his customers. Madame Gélinas has been pregnant for the last
two decades but can't seem to make her cakes rise up anymore. The beautiful
"belle Lurette" who has been crying her eyes out and peeling petals off daisies
ever since her true love went to War. And, of course Babine, the Witch's son
and the village pariah at odds with the strict new priest, who ventures forth
into the world and narrowly evades death. Beautifully filmed with brilliantly
performances all around, this is Canadian cinema at its best!
